Black peppercorn strawberries and cold creamed rice, from my cookbook Crave

This evening I grabbed a large punnet of strawberries from a petrol station micro-market. The cellophane cover was splashed with the colours of the Union Jack, and the fruit inside looked plump and flirtatious. I’m not sure if these were definitely my first taste of British strawberries of 2025 … but they were definitely the best strawberries I’ve had this year so far.
