Good Things #5 | Wish Lists
Gift ideas (for giving or receiving). Also suggestions for group dining.
It’s gift list season
I want to say I pay little attention to the annual glorification and promotion of unnecessary material possessions.
But, to be honest, I personally love to gawp my way through multiple PR-driven listicles, not to mention adding a one or two well designed kitchen items to my cupboards each year.
Worst case scenario is those lists will remind me of things I’d been meaning to ask for or think would suit someone else. Better, they’ll give me a few new ideas. And best, well, they’ll match what I’ve already got noted down, thus confirming that my taste is impeccable (/easily influenced).
So, below the paywall you’ll find an eclectic set of gift ideas — some cheap, some chunky. Also, a similarly eclectic list of London restaurants that should be on your mind if you’re booking a group meal, whether in the run up to Christmas or beyond.
And there are recipes: extracted from MOB’s new book, ONE, which is packed with good, straightforward but also fun ‘one dish’ ideas to suit home cooks who want to mix things up, without getting too fussy. The recipe for a tagine-inspired chicken, lemon and olive stew (pictured) is excellent. And I also absolutely love the bhaji topped fish curry recipe that you can also find below — clever. Plenty more good ideas in the book too. I’ve a copy to giveaway, if you fancy it? (details below).
On a related theme, my annual cookbook roundup will be out very soon, so keep eyes peeled for that Paid supporters, as ever, thank you … and see you below the line. Free subscribers, see you next week (or upgrade and read on?!).
