Supplemental #4 | Easy Wins
Minimum fuss, maximum flavour is the theme for this month's Supplemental+
Gentle reminder that the chance to win a year’s supply of Clarence Court eggs and a trio of KitchenAid gadgets ends this week.
This is March’s ‘Supplemental+’: a bonus recipe round-up for paid subscribers.
It includes a recipe extract from Anna Jones’ new book Easy Wins: 12 flavour hits, 125 delicious recipes, 365 days of good eating (4th Estate), which publishes later this week. There’s also a chance to win a copy of the book.
In addition, I’ve continued with the theme of ‘minimum faff, maximum taste’ for the handful of other recipe highlights, selected from recent weekend papers, magazines, Substack and elsewhere on the internet. Most are free to access.
Having read it with relish, cooked 2 or 3 things, and eaten a half dozen more at the launch, I can confirm that Easy Wins is absolutely one of 2024’s essential cookbooks. There’s so much flavour, and so many recipes that you’ll want to make and devour.
Anna’s ideas are all extremely appealing and she’s super smart: in the way that she efficiently builds flavours; how she recognises the reality of most people’s working and cooking life; and how she presents recipes. One feature of the recipes is that every method paragraph begins with a succinct summary of what’s about to be outlined (‘Make the quick pickle’, ‘Add the flavourings and roast’). So while there’s detail that will (if you want) help you understand why the result tastes great and ensures you don’t put a foot wrong, the instructions are also eminently glanceable, and nothing overwhelms. An excellent touch.
Read on for details of the giveaway and for Anna’s one tin, hands-free, totally delicious traybake lemon dal, plus a host of other excellent ‘easy wins’ from the likes of Rukmini Iyer, Meera Sodha and Diana Henry.
